After a beautiful fall we were greeted with a layer of wet snow on Friday.
Here a Downy Woodpecker and a House Sparrow are checking out the suet.
This Black-capped Chickadee looks charming, sitting on snow laden branches.
A Downy Woodpecker almost hidden in the snow.
The colorful Blue Jay shows up well against a snowy backdrop.
This was the scene early Friday morning.
The roads and streets were a mess.
We had several school buses get stuck, mine being one of them.
This is the not so fun part of winter, but I still think it looks
lovely with the fresh snow.
Brrr.. but so beautiful Ruth! Love your photos and of course the snow just makes everything look so sharp and clean and fresh. Wonderful post! I have given you a blogger award, when you have time, please stop by my blog site and collect it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt is very pretty indeed. Winter has arrived here as well and much more is forecast.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are delightful and always a pleasure to view.
I hope your weekend is wonderful.

Like the Blue Jay the best, wouldn't a Cardinal been great? Where are they when we need them?
ReplyDeleteOh, my....these are beautiful, but I am glad that we are not that cold yet! What great backgrounds for all the birds!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. Although they remind me that I am not ready for the snow quite yet.
ReplyDeleteLook at all that snow! Winter driving is not fun and I am thankful I no longer do it as part of my job. Your pictures with the birds make winter look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for your comment above! I thought that the bus you were driving got stuck and wondered how you managed to get it unstuck.
ReplyDeleteI love your photos of the little snow-framed birdies. New snow has a special magic, the light is so different when you wake after it has snowed at night.
Thank you for this beautiful post.
Dear Ruth, Thanks for commenting on my post, that way I could check yours out and find a new, beautiful blog. I love your pictures with the birds and snow but I'm not quite ready for snow yet but I'm sure it will be here soon. diane
ReplyDeleteWow---do I love snow!!!! We don't get much down here--but when we get it, I get VERY excited!!!! Sounds like you got just a perfect amount---not like the 35+ feet they got in the Dakotas. TOO much!!!! Love seeing your birdies in the snow!!! Great pic's. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Your birds looks so beautiful against that snowy backdrop!!
ReplyDeleteIt just snowed in northern mich. this morning.
We're still waiting! (which is, of course, fine with me!) The pictures are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh no, snow already! We're supposed to get a bunch tonight too. Your picture of the birds are just beautiful! The snow makes for some striking shots.
ReplyDeleteStay warm.

Came here from Old Man Lincoln's blog.
ReplyDeleteWhile you're almost in winter, we're on the brink of summer!
Love the snowy scenes you shared, Ruth! Bird pictures just seem to come alive with snow in the background. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely pictures these are. Definitely I am not ready for snow yet, but we all have to adjust with the weather displaying the upper hand. What a difficult job it must be getting your bus on the road on days like these. As a retired schoolteacher I am only too familiar with stormy days and bad roads. We have just returned home from a road trip to Montreal and had our snow tires put on before we left, just in case. But the only white we encountered was the white of Snowgeese in the fields.
ReplyDeleteFab images, all the snow where are you ?
ReplyDeleteoveavids, well done on POTDr from D
Loved seeing your pictures -in photography, doesn't snow just look wonderful but in person -well, best not to go there, huh?
ReplyDeleteThe bluejay, just great contrast to the white but I loved the little chickadee, sitting on a bare branch with a snow-filled one directly overhead.
Thanks to David for a lead in the right direction to see some great pics!
We might have snow sometime this winter but we will never have so many colourful birds. Great shots. over from POTD
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics - here from David's. We had our first snow a week ago, it melted and hasn't been back. I don't believe we have any birds that over-winter.
ReplyDeleteWow---love your snow pictures!!! I hope we get even a little down this way this winter...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
