Hawks

On Tuesday and Wednesday we were out shooting hawks.

Here is a small sample of some our images as they come from the camera.

I caught this Red-tailed Hawk just on take-off.

The area we were in had many hawks soaring above us.

This one,also a Red-tailed Hawk was fairly low.

I have not even cropped this picture.

Here is yet another Red-tail about to take-off with it's lunch.

It seems that right now the majority of hawks are Red-tails.

All of the pictures were taken with a Canon XTi,using a Canon 100-400mm lens.

A Walk Down Memory Lane 3

On this third installment of Memory Lane

I have chosen pictures which have an emphasis on the sky.

Summer is the time of thunder storms and lightening,

so here are some of Jake's slides with stormy skies.

This picture is actually not a thunderstorm,but in fact a dust storm.

It had been a very dry year and one Sunday the wind came up

and this was the scene.

Thunderstorms often produce much rain,which leads to unexpected run-off. More dramatic clouds.

A bolt of lightening illuminating the night sky.

Clouds as sunset create the loveliest scenes.

Note the boat on the lake in the foreground.

The next few pictures are a collection of cloud scenes.

I hope you enjoy them.

A massive thunderhead rolling in.

The storms are past and the sun is setting.

Here are a variety of sunset and night scenes.

The first shows a mist laying in the valley.

This one is our home town of Morden,Manitoba.

We used to have the two grain elevators,but are now down to one.

Sunset on Lake Minniwasta,also at Morden.

Living in a farming community,this is a scene we often come across in fall.

Another look at the elevators and the railroad tracks.

I do not know where this picture was taken,but it fits the sunset theme.

The silvery path of moonlight on Lake Minniwasta,Morden.

Quite a few years ago this fountain stood in a park in the center of Morden.

I like the colored lights on it.

The fountain was removed when it fell into disrepair.

The heavens declare the glory of God;

the skies proclaim the work of His hands.

A Walk Down Memory Lane 2

As we continue our walk down memory lane,a place where we look at Jake's old slide scans,let's take a walk through some mountain scenery.

Some of these pictures I have no idea where they were taken,

so just enjoy the scenery.

The next picture is a black and white rendition of a

scene taken at the Grand Teton Mountains in Wyoming. A perfect reflection.

This one was taken in the Canadian Rockies during a forest fire.

The following picture is the Columbia Ice Fields in the Canadian Rockies.

I do believe this one is looking down on the Lake Louise area in Banff,Alberta.

I regret not having exact locations for each one.

Many of these pictures were taken before I was part of Jake's life.

The Bible verse found in Job 37:14 says it all.

Stop and consider the wondrous works of God.

Recent Sightings

The last few days have been busy.

It's not easy to find all the new birds around.

Here are two birds we have had the joy of photographing recently.

The first three pictures are of the Upland Sandpiper.

We found this bird just south of our home town.

It was almost comical to see this bird trying to perch on a wire.

It is a delicate balancing act,but he managed to do it The above photos are done by Ruth and the next two by Jake. We had heard of a Say's Phoebe being seen not too far from our place, so off we went in search of it. On our second time out we were successful. This bird is definitely out of it's usual range,so is quite a treat to see. Here are two of many picture which Jake took. We feel so fortunate to have been able to see and photograph these birds,part of God's creation. The Say's Phoebe is also a 'life' bird for us. Enjoy happiness,treasure joy.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

Once again I invite you to join me on a Walk Down Memory Lane.

This series takes you through the collection of Jake's slide scans.

Some of these pictures may go back to the '60s and some are as new as 2005.

As usual,these are in random order,much like many older photo albums are.

Jake enjoys anything that flies.

He has attended many airshows and here are a few pictures.

The US Air force Thunderbirds.

These guys put on a fantastic show.

O.K. this air show happened on our yard.

The Indigo Bunting is somewhat in the shadows.

Another bird,the American Robin at it's nest. Little or no flight here,just an interesting spiderweb.

Back to flying,the Monarch Butterfly is a beauty.

Several White Admirals.

A Dragonfly which shall remain nameless.

These Pine Siskins are fighting over seed in Jake's hand.

Another airplane.I have no name for it,but like the color.

From the old to the new,a jet fighter.

And so ends this segment of our walk.
