2020 Flies Into History

I am continuing with photos captured by Jake many years ago.

Jake had many and varied interests and one of them was aircraft. please excuse the pure quality of these images, as they were taken many, many years ago and later put on computer.

Steve helped me with the names, but should we have gotten some wrong, feel free to comment with the correct name.

F-1 17 stealth Fighter

B-1 Bomber

C-117

Gruman S1 Tracker ?, not sure.

B-2-Stealth

747 passenger plane, first time seeing one.

I hope you enjoyed seeing another side of my Hubby and his interests.
I leave you with these thought.

Wave after wave of trial rolled over us; but at the end of the year some of us were constrained to confess, that we had learned more of the loving-kindness of the Lord than in any previous year of our lives.

Snowy Memories

Lately I have not had very many opportunities for new photos, so what can I do? I dive back into the archives, this time going far back. All the pictures today were taken by my Hubby long before we knew about digital cameras. He had a good camera and a good eye to 'see' that special shot, before capturing the moment.

I may have posted some of these before, so I hope you still enjoy them now.

An old hay rake stands abandoned until warmer weather, or perhaps, not to be used again.

Jake would spend hours wandering around in the bush, always looking for that next amazing shot. On this day when the hoarfrost was heavy on each branch, those special shots were everywhere.

Since these pictures were all taken long before I was part of his life, I cannot say with any accuracy where or when they were captured.

I love this one for the heavy hoarfrost on the trees.

This image looks almost black and white because of the foggy sky.

Of all his old winter photos, this may well be my favourite. The blue sky, the hoarfrost and the snow, just make a perfect picture in my opinion. I will admit that I am slightly biased.

Even a simple barbed wire fence can be beautiful when coated with frost.

Where this man of mine got all these shots is a mystery.

Overlooking the valley. The fog and the frost make for a lovely image.

I hope you have enjoyed these images. Over the next little while I will be sharing more of Jake's photos.

Finding beauty in all seasons.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

To all my dear friends in blogland, I wish you a very Merry Christmas .

I realize this Christmas will be very different than what we are used to, but the true meaning of Christmas has not changed.

My prayer for you is that you can make new memories with your family and friends.

I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day

Once again, I am sharing pictures taken by Jake many years ago. I am fairly certain these were taken using slide film and later transferred to the computer.

These scenes were all in Morden and the neighbouring town of Winkler.

Instead of trying to comment on each one, I will share the words of the song I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day.

I heard the bells on Christmas day

Their old familiar carols play

And mild and sweet their songs repeat

Of peace on earth good will to men

And in despair I bowed my head

There is no peace on earth I said

For hate is strong and mocks the song

Of peace on earth, good will to men

Then rang the bells more loud and deep

God is not dead, nor does he sleep

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail

With peace on earth, good will to men

Then ringing singing on its way

The world revolved from night to day

A voice, a chime, a chant sublime

Of peace on earth, good will to men

Peace on earth, good will to men

Peace on earth, peace on earth

Peace on earth, Good will to men

May the peace of God dwell in your hearts and homes this Christmas season.

Happy Memories

On this day, December 19,1941, a baby boy was born who later became my husband. As I think back to some of his life,my mind goes to his love for model railroading. He had a fairly large layout in our basement. He could put a lot in a small area, as he had 'N' scale trains.

Here are a few photos from different angles around the layout.

Seeing that he grew up on a farm, it was in order to have a pigpen on the layout.
Notice also the old wrecked car on the side. This would be a typical scene on many farms.

A farmer needs a wife to keep things running smoothly. It looks like this lady likes to keep the home looking good.

Jake had two engines that were his pride and joy.
This 'Challenger' was one of them.

The other was this one, a 'Big Boy'.
In fact it was these two which he asked me to keep. They are now standing on a length of track,in my living room, under glass.

This shows the farm from another angle and also shows some of the scenery he made.

The John Deere combine standing beside the shed was completely put together by Jake. it was painstaking work. That also has a special place in my house, together with a couple of other pieces of equipment he put together. If memory serves me right these were pewter kits and very detailed.

Just another view. The rocks were molded and painted by Jake.

One last look at part of the layout.
These trains brought hours of entertainment and joy.

I decided to make a quick collage of the small equipment Jake built for his layout. I put each one beside  a ruler so you can see the size.

So even though we are not celebrating his birthday, I have some wonderful memories for which I am so thankful.

To God be the Glory!

Silent Night

It's almost Christmas, so it is time to share some Christmas memories.

The pictures I am sharing today were all taken by my husband,Jake. He loved photography long before I became a part of his life. Some of these images may be captured before 1972, but I'm pretty sure none would have been after 1973-1974, so they are all old pictures. I am pretty sure they were originally slides and have been transferred to our computer.

Silent night, holy night

All is calm, all is bright

Round yon Virgin, Mother, Mother and Child

Holy infant so tender and mild

Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night,holy night!

Shepherds quake at the sight!

Glories stream from heaven afar;

Heavenly hosts sing Al-le-lu-ia!

Christ the Savior is born!

Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night,holy night

Son of God,love's pure light

Radiant beams from Thy holy face

With the dawn of redeeming grace

Jesus, Lord at Thy birth

Jesus, Lord at Thy birth.

It Came Upon A MIdnight Clear

Let's continue our drive and enjoy some more frosty scenes.

Today I will choose to be quiet and allow you to take in all the beauty , while we drive and contemplate the words of an old Christmas song, "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear."

It came upon the midnight clear,

that glorious song of old,

from angels bending near the earth
to touch their harps of gold:

"Peace on the earth, good will to men,
from heaven's all-gracious King."

The world in solemn stillness lay,
to hear the angels sing.

Still through the cloven skies they come
with peaceful wings unfurled,

and still their heavenly music floats
o'er all the weary world;

above its sad and lowly plains,
they bend on hovering wing,

and ever o'er its Babel sounds
the blessed angels sing.

And ye, beneath life's crushing load,
whose forms are bending low,

who toil along the climbing way
with painful steps and slow,

look now! for glad and golden hours
come swiftly on the wing.
O rest beside the weary road,
and hear the angels sing!

For lo! the days are hastening on,
by prophet seen of old,
when with the ever-circling years
shall come the time foretold
when peace shall over all the earth
its ancient splendors fling,
and the whole world send back the song
which now the angels sing.

I hope you enjoyed this time enjoying the beauty of nature and being reminded of the truths of Christmas.

Frosty Beauty

Are you ready to go for another ride with me?

The day is November 17,2020. Nothing special about this day, but it seems like a good day to go for a drive. It will be even better if you choose to join me, so let's go.

We head west out of Morden, as we drive along, we begin to notice the trees have a soft look to them. Could it be that we will see some hoarfrost?

Another few miles and the scene is changing rapidly .

We pull off to the side of the road to admire the beauty.

The beauty is breathtaking. The pine trees are covered with a heavy layer of hoarfrost.
Even the bare branches of the other trees look lovely with their frosty dress.

Of course we must take a closer look.WOW! Such beauty has been created overnight.

White, frost covered branches against an almost white sky. Is this what it means to have tone on tone?

Stepping back, we get a look at the bigger scene. A touch of blue in the sky, really emphasizes the frost.

Are you feeling a little chilly? I am, so I think it's time to get back in the car and carry on. Yes,I said carry on, we have more frosty views to enjoy, but they will have to wait until next time.

Until then remember :

God meets daily needs daily and miraculously.
